Evelyn & Fern
Fern Scott
Fern is a Bristol based producer/director, motivated by uplifting stories which encourage us to explore the hidden world from new perspectives. She wrote, produced, edited and hosted a Sundance supported storytelling podcast which explores the history of women and money. She has produced and directed over 60 creative documentary and fiction shorts, for clients and as part of her own practice. A number of these films have been viral successes and have been viewed millions of times worldwide. Her films have been exhibited internationally at the Palm Springs, Real to Reel Craft Film Festival, The Devon and Cornwall Film Festival, The Two Short Nights Film Festival, and selected as a Vimeo Staff Pick. In 2019 she was selected for Encounters Widening the Lens programme. She was a finalist in Netflix’s Britain’s Not Boring documentary competition and was shortlisted as a writer/director in the BBC Born Digital Short Film Competition. She is a member of BAFTA Connect, and was on the inaugural BFI Doc Society RISE Producers scheme. She is currently developing a slate of feature films.
Evelyn Sharples
Evelyn is a producer passionate about films that celebrate human connections through inspiring storytelling. With a background in mental health research and experience in high-end TV and feature films, Evelyn brings a collaborative, people-focused approach to filmmaking. Halfway Up Productions specialises in female-centered stories and champions emerging underrepresented talent, prioritising diversity, mental wellbeing, and inclusion on and off the screen. Evelyn currently has several shorts on the festival circuit, earning multiple festival accolades including a spot on the 75 Filmmakers to Watch list at the Women X Film Festival. She has experience working with Executive Producers, Arts Council funders, and industry leaders like Panavision and Kodak. By nurturing teams and telling authentic, relatable stories, Evelyn is dedicated to elevating representation in the film and TV industry.
Who we Are
As independent producers we’re often approached by emerging filmmakers seeking support to get their short films made. As experienced short film makers we know what works and what trips people up. And we want to share this with you.
What to expect
We will arrange a bespoke online session, focussing on your needs. This could be filling in a budget for the first time, strategies on finding funding, how to approach a producer.
Depending on your needs this session will be with Fern, or Evelyn, or both of us.
